Student Design Contest Deadline Extended to May 15!
Luraline has extended the deadline to enter its "It's Your Light" student design competition. Full details are available on the main contest info page at www.luraline.com/itsyourlight.asp with links to rules, requirements and online registration.
Light pollution, rising energy costs, and a growing number of green building initiatives are just a few of the hot-button topics to be addressed by students in South Florida manufacturer Luraline Lighting’s “It’s Your Light” design competition.
Now in its eighth successful year of promoting education in lighting design, the annual contest solicits original concepts for lighting fixtures from design and architecture students, awarding a $1,500 cash prize to the winner.
The 2008-2009 competition focuses on “high-performance lighting” and encourages students to explore some of the biggest challenges facing the lighting industry today and the new technologies that have emerged as a result. Students are being asked to design the next generation of lighting fixtures, which will provide a complete lighting solution by incorporating eco-efficient light sources, then using them to their best advantage by maximizing usable light while minimizing waste.
“Specifiers and consumers are becoming more knowledgeable, spurring technical advances in the industry,” Howard Levine, president of Luraline Lighting, said. “While ‘green’ products remain at the forefront, lighting is moving beyond energy efficiency toward more in-depth comparisons of performance and levels of usable light, with the increased use of lighting controls and improved reflectors, refractors and other optics.”
The “It’s Your Light” competition is open to students enrolled in design and architecture programs at U.S. universities, colleges and technical schools. Students must submit their entries online by May 1, 2009. Entries will be judged by a panel of industry experts, with the winner announced at the end of the school year in June 2009.
